CSAIL’s disaggregated website landscape presented us with a particular challenge: How do we devise a construct where labs can retain their own sites while still centralizing key information on the parent site? Our solution was a thoughtfully crafted information architecture and intuitive UX design that connects CSAIL’s research, people, projects, and news—and encourages deeper browsing and more page clicks. A smart search solution and advanced filters support site visitors who have more specific goals.
We found inspiration in CSAIL’s headquarters, Frank Gehry’s Stata Center, to reinvigorate the CSAIL brand. Pops of color add excitement and warmth to the visual identity, while the flexible type system is clean, techy, and performs well for dense information. The robust use of photography featuring the CSAIL community adds a personal touch.
